Step 1: The facilitator asks the children to sit in a circle and starts asking questions to find out what children know:
- What does it sound like if I say SDG? Are these the initials of a name and surname?
- What letter is this: S – D- G? Is it the initial of your name? Then, tell children that SDG means “Sustainable Development Goals”)
- Do you know what it is? (show http://waece.org/contenido/noticias/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/e-sdgs-poster-768x456.png )
- Do you want me to tell a story? Yes? then it is necessary that I introduce you to my friends Plaut us and Plato.

Friends from Pluto Planet
Friends from Pluto Planet
Once upon a time…
Plato and Plautus, two inhabitants of the planet Pluto, were given vacations at school.
The first day they were dedicated to reading books, but since Pluto is a "Dwarf Planet" they read them all that day.
The second day they played soccer, but since Pluto is a “dwarf planet” they got bored very quickly because the field was so small.
On the third day they did a MasterChef workshop, but since Pluto is a “dwarf planet” and has little food, they got bored very quickly.
On the fourth day Plato decided that although Pluto was a dwarf, the solar system is very big and they could go explore it.
So they got into their spaceship and went for a ride. And do you know where they went on an excursion?
To visit Planet Earth, better known among the inhabitants of Pluto as the Blue Planet.
Plato told Plautus what on his day his grandfather told him about the Earth: that it is made up of land, trees and water, the colors brown, green and blue show us this. It is also covered by a layer of air, the atmosphere, which maintains the planet's temperature, protects Earthlings from the Sun's rays and allows them to breathe."It's beautiful," said Plautus, "but it's not as green as your grandfather used to say." He also told me that inhabitants of planet earth do not have Good Health and Well-being, not all the kids goes to school (Quality Education), buys and girls do not have the same rights (Gender Equality), the oceans are dirty and unsane (Clean Water and Sanitation), the energy that they use is highly polluting (Affordable and Clean Energy), some people work too much and in a bad conditions (Decent Work and Economic Growth), the factories are destroying the environment (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), there are rich and poor people (Reduced Inequality), their cities are unsane (Sustainable Cities and Communities), they are destroying the planet for their self-consume (Responsible Consumption and Production), the weather is changing (Climate Action) and as my grandparent say “the Life on Land is dying”.
And the worst part is that they do not work together for stop this situation (Partnerships to achieve the Goal).
And in the bubble that surrounds the earth there is a hole.
-Yes, that is because the ozone layer is breaking down.- Plato said.
-Well, it's a pity because it's a very beautiful and very large planet. Surely the children here play soccer, do masterchef sessions and have many more books than us.
Poor things, if they continue like this they will end everything.
"Well, yes," said Plato. And sad the two thought that the earthlings had to do something to "cure" the planet Earth.
Do you like the story? Do you agree Plauto and Plutón? We should do something, don´t you think? That is why we have the 17 SDG.
Later, s/he will explain:
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of global goals and indicators defined by the United Nations for addressing the most urgent problems facing the world today.
The SDGs are special in that they cover issues that affect all of humanity. They are ambitious because their goal is that no one is left behind. More importantly, they encourage us to create a safer, more sustainable and prosperous planet.
Considering that 17 are too much information and too complex also, for this age group, we suggest to mention the most relevant SDG related to the story:
GOAL 1: No Poverty
GOAL 2: Zero Hunger
GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being
GOAL 4: Quality Education. All children all over the world has the right to receive education.
GOAL 5: Gender Equality. We are equals.
GOAL 14: Life Below Water. Keep a clean oceans.
The activity ends by asking the children to draw Pluto and Plautus in their spaceship looking at the Earth.

Show enthusiasm for children’s interests. Each young learner brings their own strengths, talents, passions, and personality traits to your classroom. Children benefit when their teachers recognize those unique gifts—and figure out how to use each child’s special contributions to benefit the class and maximize learning for everyone.
How to do it online?expand_more
The story and the conversations can be done on-line as well.
